Hear Blessings Dropping Their Blossoms Around You. ~Rumi
Happy Valentine’s Day!
I find hearts and flowers and valentine cards, particularly vintage ones, delightful. And a celebration dedicated to love – well what’s not to like about that?
Apparently lots. It’s easy to get annoyed at the “Hallmark-ization” of it and the consumer pressure to buy more frivolous and expensive nothings. And then there are those who feel it’s a day that points out, painfully or humiliatingly or sadly or some combination of all, that they aren’t in relationship.
But what if we could celebrate something that isn’t any of that at all? What if it isn’t about an artificial drive to consume; what if it isn’t about emotional attachment (whether it’s healthy or not), what if it isn’t a once-a-year excuse to get sappy and sentimental?
What if it could be a genuine opportunity to celebrate yourself and every other being on this planet? What if it could be an opportunity to look at what makes your heart sing – what makes it burst open joyfully – what makes you walk a little more boldly shining your light a bit more brightly? And what if once we had a lovely fill of honoring, celebrating, and delighting in ourselves, we did the same for each other? What if we found a way to practice staying heart-centered for an entire day? Wouldn’t that be wonderful?!
Of course there are plenty of critics and cynics and mockers who roll their eyes when I say stuff like that, and accuse me of being a little light in both brain capacity and in the grasping of reality. But that just sort of makes me laugh. Is it true? Maybe. But I don’t really think so. I think we should all work harder, much harder, at being anchored in the vibrations of Love every moment we can. And when I say work, I mean play. Because how is Love work? Love is not work, it’s not hard, it’s not sacrifice, it’s not attachment, it’s none of those things. Love is a state of being, a vibration, a way of walking in this world that isn’t bound to any object.
How about it thinking of it the way Picasso did:
Love is the greatest refreshment in life.
I like to believe we can all refresh our thoughts and beliefs any time we wish, and isn’t today a beautiful day to do that?
February 14 is also celebrated as World Sound Healing Day, so check that out as well if you’re so inspired. Let’s spread a little love to whole world!
Let me know what you’re doing to celebrate today – to celebrate you or someone else or just love in general. And let me remind you how much you’re loved and celebrated as well!
P.S. Thanks to the secret valentine who sent me Rawclates– omg yum!
