Although I spent all of April participating in the A-to-Z blogging challenge, we’re not quite done yet. All those who played are invited to write a reflections post.
I had a fabulous time this year, my second year playing. I’m crazy about abecedariums and any excuse to create them delights me. I really enjoyed writing, and equally I enjoyed visiting other blogs. What an assortment of intriguing things folks chose to write about, and I’ve found lots of new blogs and folks to follow – how fun! While there are too many to mention here, you know I love to share treasures so no doubt I’ll be pointing you in the direction of some of my faves in upcoming posts. In the meantime, I want to extend big thanks and love to everyone who stopped by and commented. I’m also offering a shout out of thanks to all the members of the A-to-Z team – kudos for all your work.
I loved creating a manifesto abecedarium of things I believe and delight in, based on unusual words. Because it is a manifesto, it really ought to be read in whole, and so as part of this final reflections post I’m posting the manifesto in its entirety, with links to the individual words if you want to check out their meaning.
I welcome ambedo and its invitation to both get lost and to remember. I want to keep my senses and heart open to the beauty around me as much as I can, and I want that to help guide me to my leading edges always.
I believe the world is filled with treasures, from tiny bibelots to the grandeur of nature and everything in between. It’s up to us to notice and appreciate them, and create our own as well.
I believe there is power in naming things. I believe cryptonyms can add a layer of fabulousity, a welcome hint of intrigue, and possibly even secret superpowers. I want more of that in my life. Don’t you?
I want to live in a dendrophilous world aware of the gifts the magical trees bestow upon us all.
I am committed to eirenism and helping create a world where all beings can live in harmony and peace.
Here’s what I know for sure: fulgor exists all around us and we can add our own brilliant light to the mix. I want to live in a world where we are all shining brightly.
I love living in a world where we get to experience Gezelligheid. To be held in love is a precious thing and I hope we can all do that for one another.
I love living in a world where I can exclaim heyday frequently – there are so many curious, fascinating, spectacular wonders populating this realm and I delight in focusing my attention and intention on noticing and appreciating them.
I believe my ikigai is to radiate my soul’s energy signature as clearly and purely as I can in every moment, finding ways to express that delight me, and always moving forward towards ever-increasing awareness, wholeness, and joy.
It’s been my ongoing objective to navigate through my life with my feet on the joy trail, but now I want to claim a new undertaking. I want to be a whirling dervish ecstatically devoted to joyance.
I love that we’re all unique and think we should wear our kinkles proudly and celebrate one another unabashedly.
I believe in the power and magic of ludic interludes to shift things, to open up possibilities, and most importantly invite laughter and joy.
I am committed to a mellifluous life, both receiving the sweet gifts, but also living in such a way that I, too, offer honey that sweetens.
I celebrate living in a world where I can be a nefelibata – a cloud walker engaged in my own unconventional dreams and imaginings.
Here’s what I know for sure: the world is an olent place that I deeply appreciate, and I want to add my own fragrance to the delicious mix.
I’m committed to creating and living in a world where periapts, beautiful little amulets and touchstones, help remind us of all the magic and light and wonderfulness we each carry.
I want to live in a world that appreciates quizzity, and I want my love of oddity and strangeness to help keep wonder in my brain and delight in my heart.
I believe rhapsodomancy and the seemingly random messages from poetry, invite us into deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us. There is always magic and nuance, the bold and the only hinted at, waiting to be invited into the dance with us.
I want to live in a world with prosperity for all; where money is beautiful and fun; and where spending our sponduliks is a delightful blessing for everyone.
I am committed to honoring the telarian in me and in all beings – spinning our beautiful webs of connection.
I know for sure that I live in an abundant world. I am grateful for all the demonstrations of uberty that surround me, and I wish that for everyone else as well.
I believe in the power of valentines. I believe that when we see, and acknowledge, and truly appreciate the connections of those who circle in our world most closely, it becomes easier to extend that awareness, appreciation, and loving-kindness in ever-increasing circles outward.
As a rule I favor the windlass – traveling the circuitous path affords many possibilities and potentials that moving in a more straightforward path excludes.
I relish those instances of xeno, wherein I can momentarily connect with strangers and share the most transitory sense of kinship. It doesn’t have to last for it to be a meaningful reminder that we are all connected.
Is there ever a more exciting time than when inspired and creating with yeasty abandon? I welcome more of that in my life always.
I can think of no better way to navigate this world than with the aim of zhi zi zhi shou, yu zi xie lao – to hold hands and grow old together.
And there you have it. I’d love to hear what you think. Have a favorite among the words? Ever written your own manifesto? Considering playing in next year’s A-to-Z challenge? Do tell – you know I want to know.
It’s been a joy reading these, and thanks for putting them all together today! <3
Honoring telarian,
Mary
Thanks Mary – and thanks for being such a faithful reader and kind supporter. I’m truly grateful.
Wonderful recap! I so enjoyed reading (and re-reading) your manifesto. I’ve said it before, your abecedariums are the reason I took the plunge and participated this year. I am already thinking about next year! Have a marvelous May!
I can’t tell you how much that delights me Janet – being a source of inspiration to create an abecedarium simply makes my heart happy. And a fine one you created! I’m looking forward to next year as well. But maybe we’ll find our way into creating a few more a-to-z things in the interim. Happy May!
Some really nice words there, especially uberty. Did you make that up?
No I didn’t make it up Shirley – it’s an archaic term. Wishing you much uberty, and thank you for stopping by!
I am so glad you stumbled across my post today as it led me here! I only wish we’d bumped into each other earlier to share our interest in delicious words. My favourite from that list? Easy, mellifluous. I used it on my M day! I’ll be popping back very soon.
Visit Keith’s Ramblings
It such a joy to find a kindred lover of fabulous archaic and underused words. How fun we both gave mellifluous a bit of extra love on M day.
Barring the unforeseen, I’ll definitely play again next year. I love having to write within a theme and finding a theme is have the fun. The other half is seeing what other people chose 🙂
How true!
What a great way to reflect and honor the challenge. I enjoyed coming along for the ride. I haven’t actually written mine yet, but I would like to!
I’m so glad you played along Amy – I really enjoyed your nature series. I’ve been enjoying reading people’s reflections about the challenge. People who’ve been doing it for a while have some pretty interesting strategies.
Simply loved the words and the flow of your Blog; a really great way to start my day – with some new words to share with my girls. Some I knew and haven’t heard for a while, others completely new but now noted… #Inspirational ❤
Thank You
Thanks for the kind words Palma. How delightful you’ll be sharing some of the words with your daughters. I love words and often pick a favorite for the week. 🙂
Hi Deborah – that was wonderful – clever indeed .. and you and Keith both using Mellifluous – it is a wonderous word … I’d go with zhi zi zhi shou, yu zi xie lao – Zed to hold the whole together and keep us peaceful in our togetherness ..
Lovely – so delicious to read and I too will be back to re-read … cheers Hilary
Thanks Hilary. I’m pretty partial to zhi zi zhi shou, yu zi xie lao as well.
I love that you put all of the links in one place – I’ve bookmarked to read the ones I missed. So much magical and glorious information!
Thanks Vickie. I had such great fun writing my manifesto that I can’t help but encourage everyone to write their own. And why stop at one? I can feel a bunch of them of percolating inside. 🙂
Well that was a well thought out reflections post, I do like a few interesting words even if I cant spell them or type them correctly. Which when linked the my battered old PC’s auto-correcting spell checker means I write a lot of gibberish indeed. Which in turn explains the very nature of my blog. I note you have been blogging here since 2008 which is very impressive, folk do tend to run out of steam.
Well I came to say a big thank you for passing by my blog and the reflections post and leaving a comment it was very kind indeed. I have had a quiet A to Z this year partly because I spent a lot of time hiding in a small box, I do find that does tend to make folk run off.
Good Luck and all being well we will meet again in future A to Z’s . . . .I moan but I do like them.
Thanks for stopping by and saying hello Rob. And btw, you can hide in a small box and pretend to write gibberish but I’ve found you now and I’ve bookmarked the portal.
I love the idea of writing your own manifesto, I think it’s a fantastic theme! Well done on finishing the challenge 🙂
Debbie
I’m on a manifesto mission now – encouraging everyone to write one. Or two. Or… Thanks for stopping by Debbie and happy writing!
