Again this April I will joining others in the annual online event Blogging from A-to-Z Challenge that invites bloggers to write their way through the alphabet. Given my penchant for abecedariums, how can I possibly resist? This will be my be my sixth year playing, and as always I’m looking forward to it.
Today we’ve been encouraged to “reveal” our theme – what we’ll be spending our month writing about.
I’m a sesquipedalian (a person who is fond of long, unusual words), and each “stop” on the alphabet will be a visit to an unusual and/or obscure word that delights me. Each post will simply be an exploration of what that word brings up for me.
I’m someone who believes the words we use, the thoughts we hold, and the energies we choose to express are important. I’m by nature curious, self-reflective, and I’m committed to keeping my feet on the joy trail and noticing the beauty that surrounds us even in the most trying times.
And no doubt, these are challenging times for all of us. I absolutely believe our services, our light, our love are very much needed. Equally important, in my opinion, is our commitment to not add to the morass, the abjection, the fear, and the overall craziness in the world when we’re in a position to offer something more uplifting and more unifying. So my intention during the month-long challenge is to turn my blog into a garden of respite, an oasis of pronoia. I’ll be writing about all manner of things that delight and interest me, and in doing so hopefully plant some seeds that contribute to joy, beauty, and serenity in these times that are asking much of each of us. I’ll give you a peek into who I am, and perhaps you’ll find an enchanting word or two you’ll want to claim as well.
I hope you’ll consider playing in the challenge too. I look forward to reading my way through the alphabet on an endless variety of topics via a myriad of bloggers. There’s still time to join here, and you know I’d love to read your abecedarium.
Oh my golly, your theme is going to be great fun. I look forward to seeing which words you come up with. I’m not going to do the challenge, instead choosing to sit on the curb and clap as the parade goes by.
Thanks Ally. And it makes me smile knowing you’ll be cheering from the curbside.

I adore your A-Z, Deborah – it is how we met! Looking forward to visiting your oasis of pronoia and am already breathing more deeply in anticipation. Sadly, as you’ll perhaps realise, circumstances around me have prevented any commitment from me this year for the challenge. But I shally surely be supporting those taking it up!!! YAM xx
I’m sorry you won’t be playing along. But I do hope you’ll find time to enjoy some respite from your current duties and hopefully a healthy dose of enjoyment from the reader perspective of this blogging extravaganza.
Sounds like fun – I am looking forward to your words!!
Thanks Emily.
I met you and your blog through a previous AtoZ and I am waiting to swim in your oasis of pronoia. I am still on the fence whether to take up the challenge myself, with kids at home and a lot of other things going on.
Playing in the A-to-Z is time intensive for sure, and with so much going on right now I certainly understand your indecision. Whether you do or not, I hope April turns out to be filled with many good things for you and yours.
Yay! You’re on my blog roll!

Thanks, and I’m looking forward to your challenge posts as well.
Looking forward to your most interesting word play, Deborah. I’m getting a special notebook to keep track of all the cool words, new books, etc. that will come out of the A to Z this year. My theme reveal coming!
What an excellent idea Janet! Looking forward to a great April,
I always look forward to seeing your musings, and what excellent words you will share this year.
Thanks Anne. Can’t wait to see your posts as well.
I will need a respite and love learning new words, so a win-win. 🙂 I am trying to document life in semi-isolation so I can look back at my blog and remember how crazy these times were. Hopefully life will be more normal in the near future.
Win-wins are the best. Documenting our journey through these times is a worthwhile pursuit. It’ll be interesting to see what comes as a result, both personally and collectively.
A positive, upbeat theme sounds like a good idea right now (and always). Weekends In Maine
I’m looking forward to reading your posts on your theme Karen.
Hi Deborah – should be fun … Keith from keith’s rambling is doing similar – writing short stories around each word. I haven’t decided, but suspect I’ll join … take care and cheers HIlary
I do hope you decide to play along Hilary – the more the merrier always.
Your theme sounds so interesting and I like your world view.
My theme is essential oils.
See you on the A2Z trail!
Thanks! I’m a great fan of essential oils and work extensively with them. I look forward to your posts and connecting with you on the A-to-Z trail.
So much fun, Deborah! Language is vitally important to me too, and I take great pleasure in rolling words and phrases around on my tongue, as well as hearing how others incorporate them into their daily use. Looking forward to April, and to dropping in on a regular basis.
Here’s to a good April Josna. The perfect time for a challenge where we’re all connecting, learning new things, and enjoying ourselves!
Great theme, Looks like I will learn a lot of new (to me) English words 😉
