Happy Valentine’s Day!
I’m not entirely sure how it got to be the middle of February, but I certainly know it’s been a curious several weeks and most definitely an energetic roller-coaster ride for me. After weeks of feeling the need to honor my craving for isolation and retreat, I’m once again feeling energized and outwardly focused.
The above photo is of a talisman I’ve put together for myself for 2010. And since it’s obviously a heart, it seemed appropriate to post it today on Valentine’s Day. Roses and hearts have turned up as important symbols for me right now, and in keeping with my stated theme of Flourish, I’ve adorned this lovely ex-voto heart with weavings of rose buds and various stone beads.
As a bonus it happens to be large enough that I can fit the talisman I made earlier (which represents the rooting and sprouting of my business) right in the center of my heart where I can hold it in protective love. I’ve taken a photo of this talisman as well, which I made from that mysterious “root” seed/nut I previously mentioned. I know my photography skills need considerable work, but if anyone can identify what the seed is I’d be most grateful. But even if it always remains an unknown I still think it’s totally wonderful.
I like the idea of Valentine’s Day; although admittedly the heavily commericalized consumer spin can be downright annoying. Still, I like to enjoy it as a celebration devoted to heart-centeredness. And what’s not to like about that? And I certainly don’t believe you need to be in a relationship, although of course that can be delightful. But if you’re not, there’s no need to be blue. We all have hearts – let’s celebrate them! A balanced heart is open and flowing – willing to receive back the good it gives out. It’s a reminder to love yourself and others with compassion and generosity. Our hearts carry deep wisdom, and when we tune into them we are gifted with so much more than our chattering minds would have us believe is possible. What’s your heart telling you?
And how fun is it that today is a double holiday?! Today also kicks off the lunar holiday celebration ushering in the Year of the Tiger. I wish you good luck, good fortune, and a good year!
I L-O-V-E your heart! (Both the one in the picture above AND the one beating in your chest. 🙂 )
I had a lovely Valentine’s Day yesterday – both my boys went out of their way to let me know how much they love me. Yes, relationships can be delightful, but getting heartfelt recognition for all you do and who you are from your kids is something else!
Thanks Suzanne – I love your heart too! And I’m delighted you got a much deserved demonstration of love from your boys! I hope your day also included some chocolate, because, well things just go better with it. 😉
