is for Nibbling and Noshing
I don’t think I can talk about all things flora and not relate it to another one of my favorite things – food. Of course any time we’re talking fruits and veggies we’re in the realm of the plant kingdom. Just as I love flowers, I also love vintage graphics, and there are so many Work Project Administration (WPA) posters that delight me. Here’s some good advice:
While there are endless possibilities of favorite floral-related recipes I could mention, what if I limited myself to those related to a favorite color – purple?
Lavender
- Lavender Iced Coffee is one of my favorite treats and A Beautiful Mess provides the lowdown.
- Lavender Truffles are a decadent treat and this recipe is via Design Sponge.
- Mountain Mama Cooks has a Lavender Shortbread recipe that’s one of my favorites.
Violets
What’s Cooking in Your World offers some delightful violet recipes – including a violet martini.
Expanding our sights into other color ranges, these edible flower recipe ideas via The Flying Fugu blog include Greek Omelet with Zucchini Blossoms, Thai Spring Roll with Pansies, Sushi with Chrysanthemums, Plumeria Hawaiian Cocktail, Rose Petal Cakes. Check out the lovely photos here.
Hopefully you’re inspired and are ready to add more flowers to your nibbling and noshing. To help you expand your possibilities even more, here’s a wonderful Edible Flowers Guide.
If you are going to consume flowers do be appropriately cautious. Pesticide usage and GMO seeds are two things very worth paying attention to.
But whether you’re eating or just looking – enjoy! And be sure to thank our pollinator friends for their part in it all as well.
The pictures on the Flying Fugu look too pretty to eat, but making those truffles is a little too messy for me 🙂 I never thought about eating flowers. Thanks for sharing this one, Deborah!
Oh I don’t know about the mess Janet – I think it gives a new meaning to finger-licking good. 🙂
Hi Deborah – love all things edible straight from the garden – and some of those ‘old’ adverts are wonderful … better go – otherwise I’ll be late – was trying to find some old American Heritage seed promotions I’d found … sure I blogged about them .. must dash! I’ll be back – cheers Hilary

Oh Hilary – I’m so delighted and grateful you shared the info about Landreth! I’d not heard of this wonderful historic company before, but I’m so glad they’re on my radar now. And how I love the vintage illustrations! I really appreciate you taking the time to find your post in your archives – thank you!
