Happy April Fools Day!
While I’m a strong advocate for having fun, I can’t truthfully say I’m very good at pranks and hoaxes. But today certainly feels like a good day to honor the Fool archetype.
Here’s a peek at four of my favorite Fool tarot cards from my many decks.
(L to R – top to bottom: Tarot of the Trance, Sakki-Sakki, Stella’s Tarot, Joie de Virve)
I suppose I have a particular affinity to the Fool archetype because I carry Innocence as one the spiritual principles in my soul’s tapestry. This is according to Connie Kaplan’s work The Invisible Garment: 30 Spiritual Principles that Weave the Fabric of Human Life.
There is often a stigma attached to term innocence, somehow implying that one is naïve or vulnerable, idiotic or ignorant. I have to smile at that because in truth it is innocence that keeps one available to learn; keeps one available to transformation.
Which is why I often start my journals with an invitation to the Fool – an invocation to begin the journey from a place of limitless potential and infinite possibilities and a willingness to see the wonders all around.
The Fool always feels like the perfect one to invoke at the beginning of a new month as well, so he’s right on target to help us welcome in April. But it feels even more appropriate this month. Although I’m no astrologer I do know we’re in for an astrologically action-packed month with Uranus being a key player in things. He will be squaring Pluto, squaring Jupiter, and opposing Mars. Uranus is the planet that destroys old ideologies, structures, concepts. Uranus rules magic and innovation. Uranus invites us to keep our mind open and free, to cultivate awe that keeps us in a state of amazement and in the playing field of the ingenius and original. And so it’s no wonder Uranus is associated with The Fool. How perfect!
Here’s hoping we can leverage that wonderful energy as we navigate this month. Here’s to being a Fool in the best sense of the word!
How’s April starting out for you? Had something to laugh about? Identify with the Fool archetype? Have a favorite Tarot Fool? Do tell – you know I love to hear.
Love the Fool, especially the one in the Motherpeace deck with the little dog following along behind. I always wonder, did he stop at the edge as his master stepped off that cliff or follow him over? I’m guessing he followed him. Good to have friends like that. 🙂
Good to have friends like that indeed Linda!
The truth behind the Fool’s little doggie: The moment the Fool steps off the cliff, the dog sprouts wings and bears the Fool aloft. 🙂
LOL – yes!
Timely! My son just messaged that he had to leave a lecture early this morning to scout out a rental house for next Sept. Prof spotted him and waved. My son inadvertently waved back causing the whole class burst out laughing. All 300 of them. Silly fellow – he could have gone out a must less obvious door apparently. Said he felt quite the fool! Love it.
LOL. I think it’s only fitting Kelly that you have a jester son.
I love what you say about innocence. It reminds me of the original meaning of the word silly: blessed and innocent. This is why I’m so silly — because I cherish blessings and innocence (and having a good time, too!).
Yay for silly!
Deborah, April has started off having a good time with us! Not only have I now two metallic pieces of stabilizing armor known as calipers for my lower legs, my husband has been in and out of hospital and he is back tomorrow for an MRI as they decide if he needs a stent in his leg or his toes taken off. He came home from a hospital visit today with an inflatable boot (looks like a ski boot) and more pain pills. So, we are both learning how to walk again with assistance and stabilization. Hmmmnnnn… beyond that… it is just a matter of managing the pain and the tiredness. April is a time for new experiences and reinvention. Looks like we are doing both! Time to kick in a good sense of humor, a large dose of innocence and naps when needed. Much love to you! ♥
Oh goodness Jean – holding good thoughts for you and your husband! May the rest of April unfold with a lot more ease and grace and have you dancing in delight.
