2/15/2014 update: Thanks to everyone who has left comments and entered my journal giveaway. And thanks to the random number generator that chose the winner: Beth Pollock. I’ll be in touch Beth about getting the journal to you.
I’m quite excited as today is Grow Your Blog – a virtual meet and greet blog party and chance to meet new folks.
And the question being asked: Who am I, and why do I blog?
I’m Deborah Weber, and I think the world is a mostly magic place filled with curiosities and treasures; and that everything offers an opportunity for me to know myself more fully. And the more I know myself the more purely and clearly I can shine my unique soul signature. I want that for all of us.
I blog because I like sharing – my thoughts, what’s currently inspiring me, what’s puzzling or delighting me. If I had to describe myself in one sentence I’d probably say I have my feet on the joy trail and choose to pay attention to the everyday sacred.
I love a lot of things, and one of them is abecedariums. In fact I like blogging abecedariums, and last year I did my first one during the month of June; then another one on self-care; and another on gratitude.
So I thought perhaps one way to introduce myself to new visitors (and hopefully reveal a thing or two to current friends) would be to do an abecedarium about myself.
A is for Altars. I have little altars everywhere. Touchstones and talismans. Reminders that the sacred is all around us in everything.
B is for Bees. Bees are sacred to me for many reasons, not the least of which is because that’s what my name means.
C is for Chapeaux. I’m a hat lover. I wasn’t born in the right century to make proper use of my passion, but I don’t let that deter me.
D is for Dreams. I’m a prolific dreamer – we all are. And I’m good at remembering mine. I love working with my dreams – it’s like getting letters encoded in a secret language from myself. How delightful is that?
E is for Epithet. I believe we should all have a string of them that fill us with delight. Two of my favorite bestowed upon me are: “Angelic Presence of the Holy Shine” and “Fanner of the Flames of Delight, Truth and Rhythm”. Pretty awesome aren’t they? Costume-worthy for sure!
F is for Flowers. I adore flowers – everything about them. Their shapes, their scents, their colors, their vibrations. And I always have them around me. I incorporate their gifts into my work as an intuitive through my training as a flower essence practitioner and aromatherapist.
G is for Gratitude. I’m convinced gratitude begets happiness. I know with certainty my life is better because I have a gratitude practice.
H is for Hyacinths. A friend introduced me to the concept “hyacinths for the soul” – meaning the little things we do/treats we give ourselves that bring us joy. Just knowing that my self-care practice is based on hyacinths for my soul makes it all the more delicious to me.
I is for Illuminary. That’s my job description. I light the way so people can see for themselves what brilliant light beings they truly are. I may be a bit biased but I do believe I have the best job ever.
J is for Journaling. I can’t imagine life without it.
K is for Kinkle. I always smile when I say that word. I think the words we like have a lot to say about us, and that’s always interesting. Kinkle means a slight kink. And I think we’re all kinkly – full of little twists that make us so delightfully unique, so deliciously eccentric, so wonderful. Here’s to all our kinkles – let’s wear them proudly!
L is for Laughter. It delights me how much I like to laugh. And it always surprises me as well. My life has held much sadness, and yet the more I laugh the further away that becomes. Laughter really is a propeller into higher vibrations. So more of that please.
M is for Moon. I am most definitely a lunar daughter. The moon is such a wise and patient teacher, and I follow her rhythms and cycles, her waxing and waning with great and joyful devotion.
N is for Nitency. One of my favorite words which means brightness or luster. I love witnessing the nitency in everyone – and it is there, believe me. But I also like shiny bright objects like the best of my Crow friends. Sparkly is good. Especially heart sparkly.
O is for Oracles. I believe the world is oracular in nature – that there are signs and guidance and gifts surrounding us at every turn. We only have to open and receive.
P is for Poetry. There’s not a day in my life when I don’t read poetry. I think of it as soul language.
Q is for Questions. Isn’t the world a curious place? Don’t you find questions popping up in your mind all the time?
R is for Roots. I’m utterly fascinated by roots, both literal and metaphorical. Knowing that the Sanskrit word for tree, padapa, means the one drinking with its foot, can you ever look at a tree in the same way again? And what do we drink in from our roots?
S is for Secret Decoder Badge. Yep I’ve got one. Makes cracking those secret coded messages a breeze.
T is for Treasures. I’m on a mission. I want to live a life where I am surrounded only by treasures. Only those things that truly delight me. We all deserve nothing less.
U is for Unity Consciousness. I believe we should all show up fully and unapolgetically in our delightfully utterly individual expressions, and yet always remembering we’re all, everyone of us, connected into greater wholeness.
V is for Valentines. Life should be filled with love letters. Most especially to our own selves from ourselves. But spreading the love to others is delicious as well.
W is for Words. I don’t really have any idea why I’m so amused by words, or so entertained by wordplay, but I do know a day without words is, well, silent. Snort.
X is for Xerography. As a lover and creator of zines, I’ve spent my fair share of time in front of copy machines. These days I’m more likely to do limited-edition printed booklets than slap-dash copying, but I still honor those roots.
Y is for Yin and Yang. 9 Star Ki is an Asian system of profiling based on astrological information. I’m 3.1.7 meaning I’m yang wood, water, and yin metal.
Z is for Ziggurat. I’m not sure why but I have an utter fascination for this stepped pyramid shape. I swear it takes real willpower not to adopt the upside-down-terraced-flower-pot Devo hat as part of my everyday uniform.
In case you don’t have a clear picture of me yet, perhaps this will help. Look closely and you’ll see my body has an opening where I can store things. Like the little slips of fortune, some secrets, and of course my origami heart.
There you have it. A someway lengthy peek at who I am. And now it’s your turn. I’d love to know a thing or two about you. Please leave a comment – I really do love to hear.
As part of the blog party, some of us are choosing to do a giveway. So if you leave a comment, I’ll enter your name in the drawing for one of my made-by-me hand bound beaded-spine, multi-pocket small journals. The winner will be announced on February 15.
Be sure to stop by Vicki Boster’s 2 Bags Full blog for a list of other bloggers playing today and have fun exploring.

Lovely to meet you as well Claire. And what a fabulous idea to do 13 giveways in celebration of your upcoming birthday! I just love that.
Oh I think we all need to see a photo of you in your upside-down-terraced-flower-pot Devo hat! Even if you don’t wear it every day, we can picture you in it any time we think of you!!! Smiles
LOL – yes I hear the laughter already. But your wish is my command. Someday, when you least expect it, watch out.
You are my kind of gal. I’ll be returning often for inspiration and a dose of Joy. Tesseract is the shape I’m intrigued by. I’m planting to encourage bees. I love moonlight. Have a great day.
Oh yes Susan – I recognize a kindred spirit. Glad the GYB party introduced us.
Thanks Deborah, I learned a new word today: abecedariums! Now I feel a huge need to write one too, so I might even do that but not now it’s way to late. Yours was fun.
🙂
Oh I’ll be so delighted to see yours when you do it!

Hi Deborah,
It is very nice to meet you! I’m not much of a commenter, but I have been having fun checking out other blogs today.
I loved your word selection – ziggurat especially. Now why can’t that be in our language more often?
Anyway, I hope your having as much fun at the party as me. Take care and keep on writing!
Best,
Rachael

Meantime, thank you for the very thoughtful post you left on my blog, Tidbits and Treasures. Enjoy the rest of GYB.

Deborah, I , too, love ziggurats. We have one just south of here in Orange County that is the Federal Building. For some reason, I always find it hilarious that the Federal Government is in a ziggurat.

So nice to meet you. Your blog is very attractive. Would love to have a chance at your giveaway!
Thanks for stopping by Patty, and you’re certainly entered in the giveway.
I am paying you a visit, courtesy of Vicki’s GYB party, and I very much enjoyed your abecedarium as an introduction post to your readers. I am fairly well read, but do not ever remember hearing the word before reading your post. I have checked out a number of your previous posts and really enjoyed the one about the holey stone, which is something else I did not know. Therefore, today I learned at least two new things because I visited your blog!
I will be following you via email. Perhaps, you might find a moment to check out my humble and eclectic little bit of Blog Land!
Thanks so much for stopping by Lynn, and it’s a real delight to return the visit.
Love your alphabets! Welcome to the party! And I hope you are enjoying it.
