Today we’ll be taking a break from the vast vista of white also known as The Winter That Won’t Give Up, and inserting great dashes of color. Why? Because it’s Holi – that wonderful celebration of color.
Waverly Fitzgerald has a lovely little description of the holiday here on her Living in Season blog. And do watch this short little video for a taste of what it’s like to be inundated with color.
Fabulous isn’t it?
While I’m not going to be dusting myself or others in pigment powders, I am going to be paying attention to color today. And pull out my markers and do a few quick color drawings. And maybe eat a rainbow salad. And put on mismatched colorful patterned socks. And pin some colorful felt flowers on my winter hat. And sign everything in colored ink today. And maybe hunt down a cupcake with multi-colored sprinkles. And put on an armful of gemstone bracelets in various colors. And dream about the garden of colorful blooms that’s only a few months away in the future. Ah, you get the idea.
I’m inspired by this quote from Melody Beattie:
“I need to remember to get up in the morning and watch the sunrise and take a moment at night to see and feel the sunset. I need to see the colors of the sky; I need to feel the colors. I need to surround myself with music, because my soul resonates with music. I’ve decorated my home with the colors of the universe – bright colors. Color is light. Colors help me feel alive, help me feel passionate, help me remember that I’m here to be an alive, passionate human being.”
YES. YES. YES!
What about you? How are you going to express your bright beautiful colorful self today? Have a favorite color? Ever been to a Holi celebration? Done a color run? Do tell – you know I’d love to hear.
Thank you for sharing Deborah, I never heard of Holi celebration. I like green and it’s very green in my part of the world. Somewhere I have my jade earrings… time to put them on!
Oh yay to green Evalina – and to lovely jade earrings. Wishing you a colorful weekend.
The colours of India are so wonderful in that video … such exuberance … I’m needing the colour of summer clothes at the minute …. thank you for all the suggestions Deborah – I think there will have to be some coloured earrings today 🙂
Fil
That’s the perfect description Fil – exuberance! I want that with colors too.
One of the things I love about the Internet is our ability to get to know each other across the globe. It seems this color thing is everywhere! This week we are doing a Color-o-thon at the school I work at where teachers are getting dumped with color if their classes get the highest amount of food donations. It is all in preparation for a color run that we are doing later this month. I had no idea there was a holiday.
Oh how fun Amy – I do hope you get some photos of the Color-o-thon. I’ve never participated in a color run, but all the photos I’ve seen of them delight my heart. Here’s to a more colorful world year-round.
