Okay technically we should be celebrating that magical oh-so-long number that is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. While we settle for the lazy notation of 3.14, in 2009 pi was calculated to 2.7 trillion digits. 2.7 trillion! Makes my head spin, and it’s enough to make me want to eat pie.
Which is my preferred homophone in case you haven’t guessed.
Knowing that I covet the vintage tin toy with the pop up crows, a friend sent me the next best thing – a crow pie card. Makes me laugh in delight. And it was a chance to use the crow stamps I carved . So now I have a nice little flock of crows to happy my heart.
But pi day also reminds me that it’s time to mention my really favorite pie day – Pino’s Pie Day run by the uber-talented Katherine Dunn of Apifera Farm. It’s an annual event, held this year on June 15. Do go read about it – it involves donkeys and goats, pies and love and aprons, and elder animal care and adoption. And did I mention love?
Wonderful, no?! And doesn’t it make you want a slice of pie right now to celebrate all the goodness in the world?
So tell me, are you more of a pi person or a pie person? Maybe share your favorite equation or favorite recipe – they’re all welcome and I’d love to hear.
Definitely a pie person. My fav is French Silk but it needs to be a good quality. I love creamy pies best and that includes whip cream on top whenever appropriate…now I’m hungry.
LOL – me too, Michele.
Bring me pie! I prefer pecan!
I’m an equal opportunity lover of pie, but I’m more than happy to join you in a slice of pecan. 😉
Lemon meringue . . . love the blackbirds & pie image!
Ooh yeah – lemon with mile-high meringue. Yum!
One of the gifts my mother-in-law gave me was baking pies. It’s kind of a funny story. She used to always bake apple pies and bring us one. I hated apple pie. Not sure why. I grew up in my parents family restaurant and we sold pie and I never really got why people loved it so much. But then something strange happened.
One day, I had a sweet tooth and there was nothing to eat in the house but the apple pie she had brought over, so I decided to have a piece and waalaa ~ a pie lover was born! After my mother-in-law got sick and stopped baking pies I decided to give it a go and waalaa ~ a pie “maker” was born! Now my daughter and I delight in making apple pies together throughout the year and every time I have a piece I fondly remember my mother-in-law and the gift that keeps on giving!
Oh that’s a wonderful story Julie! And I love that you’ve passed the gift to your daughter. Those rememberances associated with food make eating such a rich experience.
As a math teacher I am a pi person but I am also a pie person. I like crustless pies due to gluten-intolerance. Thanks for the lovely post. The toy sounds so cute. And my favorite pie is pumpkin pie.
With both pi(e)s under your belt, I was going to say you were well-rounded. But I didn’t want you to think I was making a veiled comment about eating too much pie. 😉 Pumpkin is a favorite of mine as well. I’ve started seeing a number of gluten-free crust recipes these days so maybe you’ll find one that delights you.
I had a slice of pie. Oh, I guess it was actually cheesecake, but I’m sure that counts! Happy pi day to you too. {:-Deb
No doubt it counts. We’ll just call it cheesecake pie and then it’ll be all official. 😉
