is for Kiva and Kickstarter
Dear Kiva, Dear Kickstarter –
It is my wish to live in a world where gratitude, beauty, grace, kindness, and inspired action are everyday currencies and all beings know they are greatly loved and infinitely supported.
One of my dearest dreams is to be in a financial position to practice philanthropy to the extent I’d like. I would love to be able to make meaningful contributions to the people and the ideas and the missions and the innovations that light up my heart. I delight in the idea of having a “think tank” to explore where best to funnel my resources, infusing everything with love and joy and feel-good energy.
But until the time comes when I can do that in a significantly BIG way, I am grateful for the existence of things like Kiva and Kickstarter that allow me to contribute in feel-good ways that honor my more modest budget.
Kiva, I love the concept of microfinancing, and I love how accessible you’ve made it for people everywhere to participate. The idea that since 2005 one million Kiva lenders have generated more than 500 million in loans made available in 73 countries just fills me with wonder and delight at what is possible. Thank you! I love you!
And Kickstarter, you simply make my heart happy knowing that there is a platform for crowdsource funding of creative projects. There are so many inspired people working to get their dreams expressed and you make it possible for us to cheer them on; to let them know we believe in their vision; to say yes, the world needs more of that magic – bring it on. You make it easy to understand how we can all make a difference supporting each other living our dreams. And that’s the kind of world I want to live in. Thank you! I love you!
Deborah

Here are four Kickstarter projects I’m backing, and that I would love to see fully funded so their magic can happen.
- Cheri A Ellis’ Bee Story Dresses! Art, fashion, storytelling, BEES – how does it get any better than this?
- How The Trees Got Their Voices by Susan Andra Lion is a children’s book about trees, nature and also the relationship of living things within a forest ecosystem.
- Donkey Dream (A Love Story of Pie & Farm). If you’ve hung out here long enough you know I love Katherine Dunn. Her art is simply wonderful; her heart is shiny; she lives on a farm with donkeys and rescued animals; and there is pie. Pretty perfect. And she’s looking for funding to publish the tale.
- Kalika Fortin’s Flowers for Kali – a CD of kirtans and songs
Okay, now it’s your turn. Got a fave Kickstarter project that lights your heart? Have a favorite K word to share? Ever visited a real-life kiva? Ever got some help with a real-life kickstart? Do tell – you know I love to hear.
I’m kick starting my career his year! I graduated last month and am interviewing like a mad woman. Luckily I made a good name for myself in school and have come recommended well to my potential bosses. This year is all about starting anew and kick starting a career I can finally love.
Congratulations Tiffany – and best of luck finding a perfect-for-you spot!
Oh – I just LOVE this. I’ve missed some of your other alphabet posts…and am going to have to go back and read. Kickstart and Kiva – are both so close to my heart!
Thanks Marcie.
Love the word kickstart…I sometimes refer to it as a kick in the ass. It may seem a bit harsh, but sometimes my stubborn ego needs it to get it to move in the direction I need it to really go in order to start on the projects at hand. 🙂 Thank you for the reminder.
LOL – a little kick ass can be a great motivator.
That would be very appropriate to Donkey Dream! LOL!
LOL – indeed!
Thank you so very much, Deborah- you are so loyal and supportive to my art and world and it means so very much. I am having heartburn on this one!! I am going to check the other projects here out. We all need to support the arts and creative endeavors.
I’m so delighted you stopped by to say hello Katherine! And here’s to hoping the Donkey Dream project gets fully funded with ease and grace and no more heartburn for you.
