Today’s the A-to-Z Blogging Challenge is pausing at the letter F, and I’m here to welcome fulgor.
Fulgor is defined as “splendor; dazzling brightness; a brilliant light.”
I’ve just come back from an annual retreat/gathering with a small group of beautiful friends and I have to say fulgor was my constant companion during my time away.
It started on the airplane where I saw luminous clouds unlike any I’d seen before. The place we stay is on a bluff overlooking a deep valley and every year at some point during our visit we have a magnificent thunder storm. The lightning this year was extraordinary. I always delight in the night sky as well – being so far away from the light pollution of a major metropolitian area is an exquisite treat. This year, our stay was during the waning nearing dark moon and the stars were brighter and more vivid than ever. They both woke me up and became incorporated into my dreams. The land is part of the crystal beds and so of course we were surrounded by fabulous crystals in all their dazzling beauty. But equally important to all the natural fulgor I experienced, was the brilliance of the group of women I gathered with. We were on fire this year, co-creating magic and all manner of wonderfulness. I truly felt like I was in a field of bright dazzling light. How does it get any better than that?
Of course transitioning back to a more ordinary routine after a peak experience can be a bit bumpy, but I feel ilke I still have so much to unpack from the retreat that my heart, mind and body are still very much refreshed, rejuvenated, and inspired. And when I walked into my office this morning I laughed as I glanced at one of my walls, it was all sparkly and splendid. I think from now on I’ll refer to it as a wall of fulgor.
Here’s what I know for sure. Fulgor exists all around us and we can add our own brilliant light to the mix. I want to live in a world where we are all shining brightly.
What about you? Where have you been noticing fulgor? What bright light has been lighting your heart? Do tell – you know I love to hear.
“Surrounded by fabulous crystals in all their dazzling beauty.” Wow, I need to see that, it sounds like a wonderful place and your sparklemates made it all that more magical. I see the shimmering yellow of blooming palo verdes when I go out this time of year…
Sparklemates is officially my favorite new word of the day. Love it! Your blooming palo verdes sounds fabulous. I love learning about how much beauty our very diverse environments hold. It’s all so magical.
Fulgor – that’s a good one. I love watching lightning as well. I haven’t noticed any bright lights lately but I did have some splendor recently on a boat ride with some friends. It was a beautiful day and I definitely felt a lighter heart! Thanks for sharing!
That sounds lovely Janet. And it’s always wonderful to celebrate a light heart. Here’s to more of that please!
I’m sitting beside a dear friend I don’t see often enough, while our children play. Fulgor filled with lovely chaos! =D

Sounds perfectly wonderful!
When I awake in the morning it’s the light that greats me. Sneaking in through slits in the curtains, and uncovered windows. I love the greeting, combine that with the bird song and I am smiling!
Lovely!
That indeed is a wonderful way to awaken Yolanda!
How awesome to be hanging out in crystal beds! Wow! I can’t imagine. I love crystals and rocks. I make jewelry using natural gemstones and crystals so I am surrounded by the glitter and light from the stones all the time.
I also have a dogsitting business and I find much light in the dogs!
Great post. Happy A-Z!

How fun Michele – making jewelry and hanging out with furry pals! Here’s to plenty of sparkle in our lives always.
I have also been swimming in fulgor. Thank you Deborah, for helping me give such spendor a name.
How wonderful to hear Kimberley!
what a glorious word … but more so, I am enchanted with the way you see the world. I feel like I have been cloaked in a veil, unable to see clearly. I am seeking this fulgor.
That makes me so happy Cynthia – it’s always so exciting when you feel like you’re seeing with new eyes. So much new magic to absorb and delight in!
Hi Deborah,
So fun to learn these new words with you. I experienced fulgor recently in this new group I’m playing with at our Unitarian church. Such wonderful light! Not only in terms of their wide open hearts, but also in all the brilliant things I’m learning with them.
That’s wonderful Amy!
Sounds like it all was FABULOUS and full of Fulgor whether you were on the plane, with the women on the retreat or on your wall. What an interesting word!
Indeed Elda. May our lives always be filled with fulgor!
