Playing in the A-to-Z blogging challenge, I’m writing a manifesto of what I believe and what delights me, based on unusual words. Today we’re visiting the letter J, and I’d like to introduce you to the word joyance.
An archaic word, I’m making it my mission to bring it back into current day usage. Why? Because it’s wonderful and I believe we need to both hear it more and experience it more.
Joyance is defined as “delight; enjoyment; feeling joyous; gladness; festivity.”
Joyance, joyance, joyance. Isn’t that a fabulous utterance? For me it feels like joy amped up just a bit so it can’t quite sit still – it has to get up and dance. Really, who doesn’t agree we need more of that in our world?
It’s been my ongoing objective to navigate through my life with my feet on the joy trail, but now I want to claim a new, even bigger undertaking. I want to be a whirling dervish ecstatically devoted to joyance.
How fun is that?!
As Rumi so brilliantly pointed out:
“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”
That’s joyance to me.
What about you? Are you committed to joyance? What’s delighting you right now? Do tell – you know I love to hear.
Beautiful thoughts! Joyance….hmmm…I think I would say living life to the fullest. Being able to be the person that I am authentically no matter who I am around. Taking time to enjoy every moment. Stepping away from social media, taking a deep breath of air, and connecting with those around me. That is what I think is joyance!
Hi Deborah that word is lovely and you’re right it sounds like joy amped up several notches! There’s almost ‘dance’ in it too … so I can see you ‘doing the dervish’ – with apologies 🙂
Rumi’s quote is so lovely, and thank you for this joyous post!
LOL – yes dance is almost there! I hadn’t quite realized that.
fab word – must adopt it for the times:) thanks – i like this manifesto very much:)
