is for journals.
Given that this is a miscellany abecedarium, it seems only reasonable to talk about some of my many journals – I have quite a miscellany.
This week I’ve been working on making a few tiny ones for a several friends. I hope to have them off in the mail next week, but I’m in one of those crazy busy periods where there are a lot more projects on the project table than hours in the day, so juggling is on the agenda as well.
Besides writing journals, and journals I keep for various projects and courses, I have an ongoing dream journal, and several art journals, an idea journal, and one I like to keep filled with the little ephemera of my days, in basically what’s called a glue book. For some reason that term delights me.
Notice how I kind of glossed over the categories of projects and courses – the number of dedicated journals I keep is an embarrassment of riches. Needless to say my paper-loving heart is very happy I have this particular addiction.
Here are a couple of special journals – one made from fabric scraps, a felted one, and a wee bound one that has a vintage picture of a woman sitting in a high backed chair that makes it look like she has angel wings. I love that photo (and that journal!)
Take a peek at this lovely set of little journals from Rifle Paper. I’m using them for a flower essence project I’m working on. While I suspect the work will require more than one journal (perhaps all three), if I do end up using two or more I plan to bind them together so they’ll be all in one place. In the meantime, I’m just loving the covers.
I’ve also got a basketful of backed up stuff that hasn’t made it into journals yet, but I do have a plan of action for them. I’ll be binding a bunch of mixed paper journals and tackling the basket soon. It’s one of my favorite projects and I’m actually planning on devoting time to it over the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend when our local public television station runs a 2-day marathon of mysteries. It’s the perfect task for occupying my fingers while my brain cells are busy sleuthing.
Now that you’ve had a peek at a few of my treasured journals, I’d love to hear about yours. Are you a multiple-journals-at-a-time person, or an only-one kind of user? Or not a journal lover at all? Do tell – you know I love to hear.
I think I might go mad if I had too many journals. 😀 I tend to have two. One is specifically for tarot spreads I find and ones that I design. The other is for me. I’ve kept journals since I was fairly young (11) with some gaps here and there. 😀
LOL – I understand Arwen. I’d go mad using just one or two. But it’s wonderful when we find our right-fit practices that support us.
Oh I do love the look of the Rifle Paper ones. Lovely covers. I am also envious of your Thanksgiving weekend plans. I have one journal right now. It holds ideas for future posts, various passwords, and a couple of goals I’d like to work on.There are no index tabs in this lovely journal so I’m constantly rifling through it to find the right section. I should really have three journals shouldn’t I? Love popping by to visit you as you always seem to nudge me in the right direction. Thank you.
Well you know I’m going to advocate for more journals Kelly – I can’t help myself. 🙂 But for your tabless one I’ve got a suggestion – they sell self-adhesive tabs in office supply shops, so you can stick them on the edges of pages in any fashion you’d like and voile you’re tabbed. Or just use the slightly simpler method of tabbing with post-it-notes.
I have one for songs, one for ideas and notes and one everyday diary journal – it’s got morning pages/to do lists/ telephone answering stuff – it’s even getting birthday cards, tickets and other bits stuck into it. But I have several waiting that I don’t know what to do with yet. I love paper and can’t stop buying it, but it usually lies on a shelf for ages. So you’re giving me lots of ideas Deborah:)
I’m only catching up on your Abecedarium now – so if you find comments going backwards you’ll know I’m learning my alphabet upside down lol
Making me laugh Fil. And I do love to encourage multiple journal use because it means more journals, and what’s not to love about that. 🙂 https://deborah-weber.com/wp-admin/#comments-form
What is funny is that I never used to journal until a couple of years ago for fear of ‘what if’ people read my journal after I am gone and think me crazy? Even as a child, I never wrote in a diary.
Now, I LOVE journaling!!! I have several journals and since you asked…
1) gratitude journal -written in each night before bed
2) tapping journal- write down my personal specific topics I have focused on with EFT that day
3) visual journal- I ask myself a question I am struggling to find the answer to and draw to find the answer- this one I do occasionally (not every day)
4) Dear Beloved journal- where I write to my higher self, pouring my heart out with gratitude, questions, or simply thoughts. I write for pages- similar to Morning pages but in a beautiful journal written in usually the evenings.
5) Morning Pages – spiral notebook idea from Julia Cameron
6) Positive Aspects journal- idea from Esther and Jerry Hicks book “Ask and It is Given” – I journal about things that make me feel good
Goodness, How I LOVE to journal now! Thanks for asking.
Love hearing you’re an avid and passionate journaler Elda – and what a wonderful collection you keep!
