is for roses
Today the card I pulled for myself, from the Mother Mary Oracle deck was Our Lady of Divine Presence. Shiloh Sophia McCloud uses a lot of roses in her artwork and I particularly love this card.
And how fitting that this quote by Emerson turned up for me again today:
“These roses under my window make no reference to former roses or to better ones; they are for what they are; they exist with God to-day. There is no time to them. There is simply the rose; it is perfect in every moment of its existence. Before a leaf-bud has burst, its whole life acts; in the full-blown flower there is no more; in the leafless root there is no less. Its nature is satisfied, and it satisfies nature, in all moments alike. But man postpones or remembers; he does not live in the present, but with reverted eye laments the past, or, heedless of the riches that surround him, stands on tiptoe to foresee the future. He cannot be happy and strong until he too lives with nature in the present, above time.”
I think their messages dance together perfectly.
And since this IS a miscellany, here’s a peek at some other roses in my world.
I’ve collected a number of pieces from artist Rose Walton, but this is the only one I have with roses. It’s a fave and it’s painted on wood.
Isn’t this piece by Nicolas Gouny fabulous? It’s actually a small card. I’m thinking of framing it, along with a few other of his pieces as I love his work so much. I often carry a card or two with me when I travel so I can add them to any little makeshift altar I set up.
Perhaps they’re not actually roses, but somehow whenever I see it, I think of my sweet little rose tree.
What about you? Do you love roses? Set up altars when you travel? Been thinking about what presence means, or how to be present? Do tell – you know I love hear.
I love that card. Our Lady of Divine Presence! I’ve just looked up that oracle deck online and it looks gorgeous. It’s definitely on my wish list. I know I can always count on you to unearth absolute treasures. Thank you! 🙂
I’m loving the deck Harmony, and I bet you will too.
Roses are my very favorite (although I like all flowers). What a great way to display them in a variety of forms!
When I travel, I am sure to bring my journals with me and my Divine cards so that I may draw one each morning. I also bring a timer so that I can still do my morning meditation without worry of running late. I do try to keep some of my daily rituals.
I think that it’s a beautiful example of self-care Elda to continue with practices and things that support and feel good while away from home. Yay you!
