For just about forever I’ve done a Halloween mailing – an annual slightly auto-biographical one-panel (aka a postcard) adventure highlight in the life of Pumpkin Girl.
And this year, for a variety of reasons I’m not entirely certain about, I just didn’t have the energy to undertake the project. The minute I made the decision I knew it was the right thing. Much as I love doing mass mailings, they do take an inordinate amount of time and energy. But as time ticked by and it was clearly too late to actually send anything out, I became a bit sad. No Pumpkin Girl?! Could the world still keep spinning? Would pumpkins across the universe fall over in disappointment that their heroine hadn’t made an appearance? Oh my – you can see this sent me in a bit of an existential crisis.
So I did the only sane thing a Pumpkin Girl lover could do. I made up a single card for myself, but I’m sharing it with you here. Win-win!
I also put together a little video of some of the earlier cards I sent. There are fourteen years worth here, but those are just the ones I was able to dig out. No comments about my not-so-fabulous filing system please. But in any case, here’s a peek at Pumpkin Girl through the years… (You might want to hit the full screen option so you can read them.)
Wishing you a most fabulous Halloween, filled with treats and fun and delicious spookiness too. And do tell – what kind of treats are you handing out to the trick-or-treaters? Have any Halloween traditions that delight you? Inquiring minds of Pumpkin Girl and her pals want to know so they can plan their treasure-gathering route.
Hi Deborah – how clever … love the accompanying music .. and what a great idea – you both might have to come over for some Cornish Cream or a Cornish pasty! Cheers Hilary
What a grand idea Hilary. Good thing Pumpkin Girl has a rocketship – we can be there shortly. Ummm, except well, she’s so round she gets wedged in and then there’s not too much room for the rest of us. 🙂
Happy Halloween Deborah! Loved the video, thanks for sending it! I’m still smiling!
Happy Halloween Susan – and thanks for celebrating Pumpkin Girl with me. She likes nothing better than a smile. Well, maybe candy…
Muses are compelling creatures. I know exactly the yin yang of leaving one, or letting one rest, and missing it. I love your mailings. I haven’t worked with the Puppet for awhile-he sits looking down on me from a shelf, and sometimes I just hold him. Go Pumpkin Girl!
I love how you work Katherine, and love hearing about your process. Wishing you and all Apifera beloveds a most wondrous Halloween and dance through this sacred veil thinning time.
Glad to see Pumpkin Girl in a different light as well as her retrospective. I did nothing for this season either including one of my upcoming faves, Dia de los Muertos. I guess there were too many little things going on at home to totally get into the mood this year. However, the candy is all ready and I’ve hardly eaten any myself (because I only got it yesterday) and I’m really looking forward to the onslaught tonight. I figure with it being a Saturday, there might be more monsters showing up. We’re going to have the fire pit out front, sit in the yard, and have a few adult beverages while we hand out candy. Happy Halloween to you!
Sounds like a perfect way to celebrate tonight – wishing you spooky fun! We’re in for a rainy day (and night) so I’m wondering how many trick-or-treaters will be making their appearance – we’ll see.
So you’re saying that if I eat enough Moon Pies I’ll win a free ride in a rocket ship? Because that would be worth the sugar high.
Happy Halloween to you, Pumpkin Girl!
LOL. Yes indeed that’s exactly what I’m saying.
ah, Deborah
a marvelous walk through the PG Patch. my favorite one is the snake, just too clever and funny. a tear for Jupiter, I lost my raven nearly the same time and I miss her each day. love you, tl
Thanks TL. Wishing you a fabulous Halloween and sending lots of love your way.
I was just musing over the absence of the much loved arrival of Pumpkin Girl…. and voila she appears via the web!!!! Such fun, such delight and such a perfect new delivery system. (The wee bears are a bit grumpy that PG won’t be joining their Halloween fest, but I’ll lay on a few extra treats to distract them).
OXOX
You are ever the cheerer on of these shifting times my dear friend. Wishing you a fabulous Halloween and hope you’re not forgetting the treats for yourself.
OMG I loved the video! And Pumpkin Girl. And you were entirely correct that there can be no Halloween without her. But, may I say that this was even better than postcards because most importantly, I hardly think I know you well enough to get a postcard anyway, so this video caught me up woth all your other friends that have their addresses so neatly and delicately hand written in your address book. I’m rooting for very adorable little videos of Pumpkin Girl from now on.
LOL. I’m delighted to welcome you to the world of Pumpkin Girl, where everyone is well-rounded and lit from within.
This is very, very cool! Great job, Deborah! I totally enjoyed this video post! Aloha
Thanks Vicki. Hope you had a treat-filled Halloween.
This is so neat! I am so glad you decided to share your collection with us. It was so fun to see them along with that music. “Naz” to you!
I’m happy you got to meet Pumpkin Girl. You may never think of well-rounded in quite the same way. 🙂
Love, love, love it Pumpkin girl. Halloween is such a magical time!
Well rounded and lit from within. Oh. Brilliant. May we ALL be well rounded and lit from within. Pumpkin girl.
Indeed!
I’m not a big fan of Halloween, but you’ve made me reconsider – Pumpkin Girls is such a lovely tradition. I love the card – Jupiter looks like it’s 3-dimensional. Thanks so much for sharing.
I’m delighted Pumpkin Girl has inspired you to reconsider the joys of Halloween. She’s a big fan. 🙂
