is for poetry
I’m going to keep this post short today because I really really want you to click over and read a post I wrote way back in 2009. I was very blessed then to receive permission from the now late poet Morton Marcus to print one of his prose poems in full on my blog. To be honest I’m not sure why he even read my request for such a thing, let alone granted permission, but I think it speaks to the immense kindness and generosity of his heart. And I am truly grateful.
His piece speaks so clearly to me about what poetry is that I cannot read it without my heart cracking open wider every single time.
Go read it. And then come back and tell me what you think. Does your heart crack open as well? Do you understand why I can’t imagine a life without poetry, and why it is such an essential part of my self care? Do you feel that way as well? I really would love to hear your thoughts, so please share.
The poem definitely helps me understand why poetry is such a significant part of your life. It was for me during a significant time of healing. I wrote poetry at that time to process, learn, vent, etc. It was powerful.
Poetry really can be a light helping you navigate during those challenging times. I’m glad it was for you.
