is for zizz
It seems only right and delightful that the final entry in this self-care abecedarium should be one of my favorite words. Zizz. Isn’t that a marvelous twinkle-in-your-mouth word?
It’s actually another one of those archaic words, out of popular usage, that I so treasure. It means Sparkle. Vim.
And isn’t that a perfect addition for our self-care?
Don’t we all want to sparkle? Filled up to the brim with our own spectacular magnificence that we can’t help but spill it outward? Which is the whole point of self-care. To keep us in thrive mode.
So to be all zizz-ified it can’t hurt to add some zizz to your life. Your week. Your day.
What might that look like?
It might look like this selfie. Which I totally adore. It’s goofy. And doesn’t really look like me, which I find utterly fascinating. But there I am laughing with my crooked grin. A group of friends and I are on a strictly prescribed regime to do a happy dance a minimum of three times a day. How silly is that? And how fun! It’s impossible for me to do it and not laugh. And it’s impossible for me to look at this strange picture of myself laughing and not laugh as well. Zizz is like that. Simple. Weird. Available if you leave the slightest crack open for it to enter it will take you up on the invitation and next thing you know there’s sparkle.
I invite it in with my daily morning soap bubble streaming from my front porch. Playing with color. Whispering poetry to the trees so they can send it outward with a shake of their leaves.
What about you? How are you inviting zizz into your life? How are you sparkling? Or maybe there’s a favorite word you love rolling off your tongue – what is it? Who is the zizziest person you know, and what can you learn from them? Do tell – you know I love to hear.
P.S. Another modern definition of zizz, according to the Urban Dictionary is “a short nap.” And that’s not a bad self-care idea either.
