This week’s color palette for the Summer of Color challenge is lavender and grey with a pop of plum. Yum! Do play along if you’re inspired and check out what other players are creating.
Keeping with my intention to create a small journal each week in which to keep track of the week’s creative adventures, here’s my creation:
Today also happens to be National Typewriter Day, the anniversary of granting the U.S. patent to Christopher Latham Sholes. I find it altogether amusing to celebrate veering-on-obsolete technology.
But not quite obsolete. Poet Maya Stein is embarking this summer on her second Type Rider touring adventure, this time with another poet, Amy Tingle. They’ll be riding a tandem bicycle 1,400 miles, toting two typewriters, and writing poetry for people they meet and helping build Little Free Libraries. Pretty wonderful, and most definitely a cause for celebration. You can read more about it here.
There are some crazy amazing vintage typewriters out there to swoon over – do a Pinterest search if you don’t believe me. And while I plan to write my multiple series of best-sellers from the convenience of my computer keyboard that doesn’t mean I don’t keep a few typewriter talismans to amp up my creative mojo.
I love my little stuffed typewriter-headed angel pin which I keep hanging at my desk. And my typewriter watch. While my long-necked woman isn’t typewriter related, I included her because she sports this week’s SOC colors. Which makes me smile because she’s an unfinished sketch I started last week.
How’s your week starting off? Appreciating some pretty colors? Celebrating typewriters? Doing neck stretches? Do tell – you know I love to hear.
Beautiful …lovely artistic and symbolic expression for SOC..and the colors look fabulous! I love old typewriters too..
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful work! xo
Thanks for hosting the challenge Kristin and for stopping by to say hello.
I love the typewriter watch (with those round keys, reminiscent of the typewriter I used for my high-school term papers) and all the info you gave about National Typewriter Day. My only knowledge of typewriter history comes form my obsession with Mark Twain, who was one of the first (or perhaps the very first) author to submit a typewritten manuscript.
My Summer of Color post for this week can be found here: http://proartz.blogspot.com/2014/06/abstract-photo-summer-of-color-week-of.html
I had no idea about the Twain manuscript – what a fun fact.
Oh that’s gorgeous – loving the textures
Thanks. And I appreciate you stopping by. Have a happy colorful week.
There’s a very “hip” coffeehouse here in town that is decorated with vintage typewriters throughout. It’s an interesting juxtaposition to see everyone glued to their laptops and tablets amidst all the typewriters.
That image makes me smile.
I do love vintage typewriters especially the bright pretty ones. Someday I may invest in one. I like your journal, it is very pretty.
There really are some delightful ones. I might not be able to pass up a turquoise one if it happened to find its way to me. 🙂
There is something about typewriters and I enjoyed your musings on them here.
That’s a super typewriter watch and I like your long-necked lady who came to the challenge wearing the SOC colours already.
I also like your little journal, a great weekly journal, a good idea.
Thanks for stopping by and saying hello – wishing you a colorful week.
Beautiful use of the colours. I wish I still had my old typewriter. It was leant to someone who never returned it 🙁
Sorry to hear about your typewriter. Perhaps a wonderful replacement will make its way to you someday.
wonderful entry for the SOC challenge! I wish I still had my old typewriter…
Thanks! Wishing you a colorful summer (and perhaps a new old typewriter).
I love your journals they are so nice 🙂
Thanks! I appreciate you stopping by and wish you another colorful SOC week.
I just love your journals! You used the SOC colors beautifully this week and with such creativity. I also enjoyed learning about National Typewriter Day!!!!

I love type writers myself! That watch is fantastic. Your journals are fantastic and such a great idea!
Thanks. Wishing you another wonderful SOC week.
Lovely little journal! I love this idea 🙂

Thanks Miriam. I’m so enjoying finding all the wonderful ways folks are inspired to express the SOCs.
