I’m so happy to welcome Spring today.
This well may be my favorite holiday. Not only is there the equinox itself to celebrate, but this turning of the wheel also signifies the start of the astrological new year. January 1st may be the start marked on the calendar, but Spring always feels like when we get to show up in the world in our new year’s outfits.
And this Spring is swaggering in with the power of a lot of fresh beginnings behind it. We can thank the New Moon accompanied by a total solar eclipse for that extra dose of new and re-set energies.
I love the vintage image above of young girls and lambs and the blossoming cherry tree – how perfectly Spring-like. That may not be exactly what it looks like here in Chicago right now, but that’s how my heart is seeing it. And given that it IS the Year of the Green Wood Sheep I thought it especially appropriate to celebrate with those sweet little lambs.
Adding to the festivities, the vernal equinox is when I celebrate my wedding anniversary. Let there be cake! And bouquets of flowers reminding me that soon the first shoots will be popping up in my garden.
I’ve always loved this Rumi poem and it feels perfect for Spring:
“Lord, the air smells good today,
straight from the mysteries
within the inner courts of God.
A grace like new clothes thrown
across the garden, free medicine for everybody.
The trees in their prayer, the birds in praise,
the first blue violets kneeling.
Whatever came from Being is caught up in being,
drunkenly forgetting the way back.”
Wishing you an extraordinarily wonderful day that ushers in a season filled with joy and peace and love and light.
Happy Anniversary Deborah 🙂 And I hope the spring flowers are soon in full bloom.
