This month I’m inspired to share a short uplifting documentary about inventor Tom Lawton‘s latest creation Uplift, a solar-powered sculpture designed to soothe the soul that’s made from waste fishing nets. Check it out here.
This story has so many elements I love – art, conscious creation, spirals, and a peek into this inventor/artist’s mind. Enjoy!
Absolutely love everything about Tom’s work and aesthetic. So mesmerizing, relaxingand I love the fact that sustainability plays into it’s creation. Brilliant post, thanks so much for sharing and for being a part of #WATWB. Hope you have a fantastic weekend!😊
I’m really impressed and delighted with Tom and his work as well Belinda. A little dose of much-needed magic for our world I think. Wishing you a wonderful weekend as well.
That really is mesmerizing, and I too could watch it all day. Very calming and hypnotic. Tom is also quite easy on the eyes. 😉
LOL. And the motion really is mesmerizing and so soothing. Doesn’t get better than that.
This is so wonderful Deborah thanks so much for sharing this story of Tom’s creation. There are so many take-aways for me in his story, his radical optimism, the beauty of order being created from chaos – regeneration -, using trash and converting it into something sustainable, his imagination, the use of the electromagnetic field, his love for his grandmother and how much she enjoyed it – and of course the sense of calm that the spiral with its gorgeous colours like stone washed glass induces. A wonderful #WATWB post thank you again 🙂
It really is satisfying on so many levels isn’t it Susan? Makes my heart happy.

That’s delightful! YAM xx
Indeed Yamini.
Hi Deborah – I’d never come across Tom Lawton and his inventions before – how just beautiful and wonderful … loved his reclamation – working with the Cornish fishing industry, rescuing and recycling those fishing nets. The colours so sea-glass magic coloured … and his use of language – superb.
I’ll be back to watch the video again – the howling gales are knocking the connection off and on! But what a brilliant #WATWB post … and from Britain – thank you!! Take care and stay safe and good to see you back – all the best – Hilary

Sea-glass magic colors — yes, that’s a perfect description Hilary. I hope you made it through the wind storm without any problems. We had quite the wind storm here last night as well. Blowing in the first dose of autumn cool.
That’s awesome! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for stopping by Eric.
That’s a lovely story, and a wonderful legacy for his beloved Nan. I am off to investigate these sculptures now, they look amazing 🙂
It is a lovely honoring isn’t it?
This is wonderful. I like the idea that objects need to be sustainable and it is the responsibility of the creator to do that. Plus, how cool is that structure? Very, I’d say.
Agreed on your points. 🙂
