Today, I’m happy to join others in “We Are the World Blogfest” – promoting positive news on the last Friday of each month, and, in our sharing, increasing the light quotient in the world. Do check out the other bloggers participating, and consider participating yourself.
Today I’d like to introduce you to Jess X. Snow, a queer Asian-American artist, filmmaker, poet, and activist.
She recently created a short animated film Migration is Natural. It’s a powerful message and under 3 minutes, and I encourage you to watch it now.
We are indeed all composed of water and stardust, and we are all a migrant constellation. What would it be like if we truly embraced this understanding?
I discovered her work through another organization worth mentioning here in the spirit of this blogfest – Pincause. They partner with artists in creating artwork (produced as pins) that show support for important causes. A portion of the sale of each button goes to support those causes. So far they’ve produced three pins: Women’s Rights; Rise for Refugees (the one created by Jess X. Snow), and Science not Silence. This little company, whose mission statement is bringing “people Together in Love” has raised over $118,000 for these causes. Impressive and inspiring isn’t it?
It makes my heart happy knowing we live in a world where creative people are lighting the way. And the inside joke is – we’re all creative. Let’s all shine!
From small inspired beginnings, amazing things grow! Great on Pincause Deborah – reminds me of the tiny acorn growing into a mighty oak.
The video by Jess X is beautiful ‘ – a migrant constellation -‘
Thank you for this lovely post – and have a great weekend.
What a lovely way to think about it Susan. So many tiny acorns from which greatness can spring. And I must thank you for introducing me to the We Are the World Blogfest – what a wonderful project I think we’ll all be reaping joy from.
Hi Deborah – thank you for introducing us to these causes and the help they are providing, and encouraging others … wonderful to see. I enjoyed the video ‘Migrant Constellation’ a profound piece of work … cheers Hilary
