is for xylo
Xylo is a prefix meaning wood. So you might see it in words like xyloglyphy which is a form of wood engraving, or xylomancy which is a form of divination which interprets the signs of twigs and branches and bits of wood on one’s path.
But for my purposes today I’m just going with xylo. Because I feel kind of woody today – a bit lethargic and slow moving. I’m also woody in the sense that based on the 9 Star Ki, a system based on interpreting the energetic qualities one carries based on one’s birthday, my primary number, meaning my primary characteristics, is yang wood.
I took some photos of wood I have on various altars around my house.
I’ve got lots of sticks and branches and I also have a number of carved figures. The one wearing the beads is African, the golden Balinese-looking one is of Lakshmi, and the third is one my sister-in-law carved for me. I came upon a stash of Cypress knees which I shared with her, and in return she carved this two-sided goddess for me. Aren’t I lucky? And don’t you love the idea of Cypress knees? I get shivers of delight just saying the word.
And here’s today’s index card for the ICAD challenge:
So what about you? Even if you don’t know anything about the 9 Star Ki system, would you consider yourself more like wood, water, earth, fire, or metal? Have a favorite tree? Is your vision more single trees or forest like? Have a tree tale to share? Do tell – you know I love to hear.
Love the icad!! Love the color, the zentangle feel, the TREE!
Thanks Cynthia.
That is so interesting! I wonder if the original xylophone was wooden?
Yes, according to Wikipedia “The xylophone (from the Greek words ξύλον—xylon, “wood”[1] + φωνή—phonē, “sound, voice”,[2] meaning “wooden sound”) is a musical instrument in the percussion family that consists of wooden (not steel) bars struck by mallets.”
