M is for money.
Given that today is income tax filing day in the U.S. I thought we’d have a little run at the topic of moola.
Last week I was given a lovely piece of pyrite, commonly known as Fool’s Gold. Needless to say Fool is delighted to be paid in such currency. And while few people recognize it, I happen to be a millionaire, as evidenced by the currency below issued by the Bank of the Universe.
Being as rich as I am, I’ve also created my own currency. Because frankly U.S. currency is just plain boring. Seriously, what’s up with it? Where’s the color, the fabulous art, the fine design?
I think money should be fun and beautiful. Before adopting the Euro, the Netherlands had a fabulous colorful guilder which was a sunflower with a bee on it. Swoon-worthy in my opinion. A world without bee currency is missing something, and to address that important need I’ve created the first run of Honey Money. No need for any specific denominations, this Bank of Prosperity note is valued at “more than enough.”
Of course I do like Rumi’s thinking on this as well:
“If you want money more than anything,
you’ll be bought and sold.
If you have a greed for food,
you’ll be a loaf of bread.
This is a subtle truth:
whatever you love, you are.”
So what do you think? Wouldn’t life be more fun if all the currency we exchanged were fabulous little pieces of art? Have you ever created your own money? Had a special little bank where you saved your loose coins? Do you believe, as Rumi did, that whatever you love you are? Do tell – you know I love to hear.
If I spent hours crossing my stitches would I be crossed to?
LOL. Or perhaps you’d be a pointed needle.
What a wonderful concept. I wish it were that simple! Beautiful bees.
I don’t know why we should let a little thing like current reality get in our way. 🙂
hmmm, we’ve all heard the saying, “A fool and his money are soon parted”… I am loving that HONEY MONEY!!! Have a wonderful day! Aloha
Oh how funny Vicki – I totally forgot about that expression! Wishing you a wonderful, gold-filled day as well.
hmmm… I love free-motion machine embroidery … am I a piece of fabric ? am I a sewing machine, a spool of thread ? all of the above ?
Makes you think 😉
LOL – it does! I’d go for beautiful free-spirit expansively adorned. 🙂
“I am a book–open me up and I am red”–Clive Barker
I’ve been watching the “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures: Stardust Crusaders” series. Many of the characters have special powers called Stands that suggest Tarot cards. The Fool is a dog named Iggy, which often acts foolishly (by human standards) but also is often in just the right place to spoil the bad guys’ plans.
This year I get a tax refund thanks to spending on college education in 2014.
Well you’ve got me intrigued – I’ll have to check out Jojo. And congrats on the refund – sweet!
I should warn you that it’s very violent, and the dog doesn’t show up until the second half of the season.
Thanks Scott – I appreciate the hedz up.
I also immediately thought that a fool and his money are soon parted! I love the Rumi quote thank you. Wouldn’t it be lovely if we exchanged beautiful objects instead of funny money. I hide money in books mostly, and sometimes forget which ones. Always a nice surprise coming across it again, or in the inner pocket of a jacket ..Thank you Deborah!
Yes to exchanging beautiful objects – that would be fabulous. And it delights me that you tuck money into books. Adds another layer of preciousness to those beloved tomes.
I love Rumi ♥ As for money, I am a fool with it–but I like enjoying myself. Is that really foolish? 🙂
As someone with a mission to keep my feet on the joy trail, I’d say enjoying yourself is fabulous, not foolish. 🙂
